BACKGROUND: The Ghana Geotechnical and Geosynthetics Conference, to be hosted by the Ghana Geotechnical Society and the Ghana Chapter of the International Geosynthetics Society, is expected to promote geotechnical and geosynthetics engineering in Ghana and the West African Region. The region is undergoing rapid economic growth and needs to develop new infrastructure and maintain existing ones to support its development. These types of infrastructure include heavier structures, such as high-rise buildings, multi-level interchanges, underground water reservoirs, waste containment systems including tailings dams and landfills, and improved roads in rural communities to facilitate delivery of agricultural produce to the major cities.
To ensure that these very necessary types of infrastructure are developed to meet contemporary requirements for green engineering and public safety, it is imperative to continuously upgrade the capacities of local geotechnical engineering practitioners. This conference, therefore, seeks to bring together geotechnical practitioners, researchers, academia, manufacturers, contractors, and others from Ghana and other parts of the Sub-region to share their work and exhibit their products. It will promote effective interactions among geo-engineering practitioners to address current and future challenges.
CONFERENCE THEME: The Critical Role of Geotechnical Engineering in the nexus between Green Engineering and Public Safety
VENUE: The Conference will take place at the University Accommodation and Conferences Impact Building at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST) Campus in Kumasi, Ghana.
DATE: The conference will be hosted from September 3-4, 2025
